Communicating ideas and achieving sales targets has been the focus
of Clive’s working life for thirty years. During his time in sales, he sold a wide range of
products, solutions, and services in the IT industry. As Managing Partner of
SalesSense, he continues training and consulting services. In addition, he is the author of
most SalesSense training material and writes about selling for magazines and
newsletters.
His sales career
began in 1977 when he adopted the sales role for the scientific instrumentation
company who employed him as an electronics engineer.
From 1979, he spent
five years implementing and developing sales campaigns for the top UK Intel
components' distributor, Rapid Recall. Rapid were the premier UK Intel product
distributor of the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. In the role of field sales
engineer, he achieved 125% and 142% of target before accepting promotion into a
product-marketing position. Responsible first for the Intel component products,
then later for the Intel systems products, he continued to trounce multi million
pound targets.
In the mid 1980’s,
as companies began to use personal computers, he joined PC reseller, Quest, to
take on the challenges of making the new technology solve real business problems.
In 1984, he won a place on the IBM study tour in Florida.
Joining Sun
Microsystems in 1985, he sold distributed computing solutions for technical
applications and became familiar with the early use of e-mail and the Internet
for global communications. While at Sun, he won a Presidents Club place, three
years in succession.
After pioneering Sun's UK indirect sales channel, he joined Silicon Graphics in
1989 to set up and manage their 'Value Added Reseller' programme. In 1993, he was
appointment National Territory Sales manager and doubled revenue and profits two
years in succession. At Silicon Graphics, his sales achievements earned him five
President’s Club awards.
From the launch of
SalesSense in 1996, Clive has directed the company’s growth. As a sales trainer
and coach, he has helped hundreds of companies and thousands of people increase
their sales success.
